Security Analyst with the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre Prof. Richard Kwesi Aning has admonished President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to immediately remove Mrs. Hawa Koomson from her position as Minister in Charge of Special Development Initiatives.

The call comes on the back of a shooting incident at the Step to Christ registration center in the Awutu Senya East constituency of the Central region on Monday.

The minister admitted to firing a gun at the voters’ registration centre, an action she has justified.

“I fired the warning shots because I felt my life was in danger,” she told Adom TV.

However, Professor Richard Kwesi Aning who is Head of Research at the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre has said the action of the minister and political actors alike sharply defeats the essence of politics which is about serving the interest of the country and creating an enabling environment in which development, stability and peace allows us to perform.

“This is our political culture and it is my hope that His Excellency the President would ask Mrs. Hawa Koomson to step aside by tomorrow afternoon or probably dismiss her,” he added.

Meanwhile sources say four persons have been arrested in connection with the incident at the registration centre which saw the burning of some motor bikes.
