Paramount Chief of the Sirigu Traditional Area in the Kassena-Nankana West District of the Upper East Region, Naba Atogumdeya Roland Akwara III has praised the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government for implementing the Planting for Food and Jobs Programme, saying it has reduced the migration of the youth from his area to southern Ghana to seek greener pastures.
Speaking when Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia visited the Sirigu Traditional area Tuesday, October 10, 2020, he added that the Planting for Food and Jobs Programme has led to the production of food in sufficient quantities in his area.
“Your Excellency, the Planting for Food and Jobs Programme introduced by your government has also increased food sufficiency in my traditional area, as many people, especially the youth, are now engaged in farming…This is unusual. And it has helped to reduce the youth migrating to the south,” he observed.
The Chief was also full of praise for the government for its Free Senior High School policy. He revealed that prior to the implementation of the policy, many students, especially girls were unable to proceed to senior high schools due to the limited financial resources of their parents.
He took advantage of the occasion to appeal directly to the Vice President to ensure that the road network in the area is improved.
The Vice President, who is on a three-day tour of the Upper East Region, reiterated the government’s commitment to developing every part of the country, urging the people of area to vote for the NPP in the upcoming elections.
