Government has explained that the Performance Tracker it launched Wednesday, April 10, 2024 is an upgrade of an existing one launched in 2020.
The tracker launched in Accra today is a database system that showcases the performance of government and ensures accountability, government said.
But a similar one was introduced in 2020 and many have questioned the need for the latest one when there already exists such a database system.
But speaking at the launch, Minister for Works and Housing Kojo Oppong Nkrumah explained that the Performance Tracker is an enhancement of the old database system known as the delivery tracker.
“The performance tracker is first of all a database. It’s a database that showcases the performance of the government of Ghana. it is an enhanced version of the 2020 tracker that the government put out”.
Unlike the delivery tracker that focused on only infrastructural projects, the new one encompasses every activity of the government, spanning the period January 7, 2017 to June, 2023, he said.
Oppong Nkrumah added that the Performance Tracker is user friendly, data on it has been vigorously validated with pictures, videos, audios and geolocation tags to enable authentication by the public.
It is also a live database system and thus, will ensure real-time update of information, he indicated.
“And the enhancement is in 3 features. First, it is more user friendly than before. It’s easier to navigate this particular database. Second, it’s gone through a very rigorous validation exercise. we down through to the district level, town by town to geotag the projects and to take photos of the projects so that you can see it. It also got for the first time metrics”.
He continued, “Data that you can then analyse and do the necessary comparison. It’s a live platform. And so even as we go on from today, there will be a continuous exercise to update and to validate. The latest data set you’ll find on it is June 2023”.
Currently, there are about 13,000 projects uploaded onto it.
These projects, policies and programmes are classified into 22 thematic areas, 105 categories, 28 ministries, 16 regions and 261 districts.
The minister, while urging Ghanaians to make use of the tracker, indicated that it can be accessed via a URL www.performancetracker.gov.gh or via a mobile app.
