Vice-president and flag-bearer of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has conceded defeat to former and flag-bearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) President John Dramani Mahama.
In a public address at about 9:30 am, Dr. Bawumia revealed that he had called to congratulate Mahama for winning the elections.
He said their own collated data indicates that the NDC and Mahama have won both the presidential and parliamentary election decisively.
The Vice-president explained that his decision to concede defeat even before the Electoral Commission announce the final results is in line with his commitment for peace in the country.
He said while he and his party have conceded defeat, they will not abandon their quest to make Ghana better and thereby, hold the incoming government accountable.
He was, however, quick to add that he will not lead a disruptive opposition and will be readily available to assist in the governance of the country.
