The Communications Director of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has said that the party’s manifesto for the 2020 elections would consolidate the numerous achievements of the NPP government.

Speaking in an interview on Joy News TV ahead of the launch of the party’s manifesto for the 2020 elections, Mr. Buaben Asamoa said the government of the NPP has demonstrated its willingness to listen and address the developmental needs of the Ghanaian people.

The NPP’s Communication Director noted that public policy is a multidimensional task as result the initiatives implemented by the government might not have addressed the critical needs of some Ghanaians hence the need to tackle those needs in its subsequent policy framework.

He said the party is therefore appealing to the Ghanaian people for another opportunity to continue its developmental policies that would address the needs of majority of the populace.

“What we are going to outdoor tomorrow is our manifesto for the 2020 elections. We are looking at what we seek to do going forward in 2024. Over the 2020 to 2024 period what we will do to consolidate what we have done between 2017 and 2020 would be the focus,” he said.

The New Patriotic Party added that “the party which is the mother of the government and clearly the government being the main instrument has demonstrated that it is willing to lead, deliver on the difficult issues and listen at the same. Because public policy is a multi-headed animal and if you seek to take advantage of as many heads as possible at any given time but people would still fall through the cracks. And therefore we do vulnerability nursing to try and catch as many people as possible. It is an agenda in progress and we are asking for the opportunity in all humility to continue with what we started.”

The New Patriotic Party is set to launch its manifesto for the 2020 elections in the Central Region on Saturday, August 20, 2020 to seek the mandate of the Ghanaian voter for a second term.

On the programme line up for the launch, Mr. Asamoa said the main event would be preceded by a National Council meeting on Saturday morning follow by the event which would be in three segments and would be addressed by different personalities of the party. He however stated that due to the COVID-19 pandemic, live audience would be restricted to a few invited guests.

Even before the manifesto launch, the vice president, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia who doubled as the running of the party for the 2020 elections has in a recently held Town Hall meeting touted the NPP government’s achievements as unprecedented and promising that the party would do even better in terms of developmental achievements in if it is given the mandate again in the December elections.

The vice president had earlier stated that the ruling party has achieved over 70 percent of its 2016 manifesto promises. This was however contested by the main opposition party, NDC and some Civil Society Organizations (CSOs).

Whiles the NDC rated the NPP 14 percent in its delivery on the 2016 manifesto promises, policy think tank, IMANI Africa rated the party 48 percent.
