Old Students of the Bolgatanga Senior High School (BIGBOSS) over the weekend climaxed a series of activities including football games and a street float as part of a Homecoming Ceremony with a durbar in the school that saw various stakeholders highlight the need to reclaim the once enviable academic record of the school.

Speaker after speaker reckoned that the school was known for great academic achievements to the point that it became the desire of many within and outside the Upper East Region to have secondary education in the school.

The institution was established in 1970 with 75 students in Zuarungu which is now being occupied by Zuarungu Senior High School.

BIGBOSS became the preferred destination for many students desiring education in the areas of Business, General Arts, Home Economics, Science, and Visual Arts among others.

In recent years, stakeholders including Old students of the school affectionately called Tangabisi, have observed a rather worrying pattern of a decline in academic performance in the not-too-distant past.

The troubling trend has triggered the establishment of an academic committee with the support of the old students.

At a Homecoming ceremoney, which centered on reclaiming the past glory of BIGBOSS, the National President of Tangabisi, Apana Adagzina, noted that old students of the school have a key part to play in restoring the school to its former state of being a preferred destination for academic excellence.

Mr. Adagzina further stated that other challenges such as governance issues and challenges with student indiscipline have equally been observed hence the need for concerted efforts to reverse the trend.

“We gather here to celebrate the legacy of our alma mater which has a rich history of academic excellence. Producing leaders, innovators, and change-makers. However, in recent years, we have observed a concerning decline in academic performance. This trend is troubling but it also presents an opportunity for us to come together to bring back the glory days. As old students, this endeavor, cannot be overstated. It is our responsibility to mentor, to provide resources, and to inspire the future generation of BIGBOSS students.”

The Headmaster of BIGBOSS, Anthony Adimazoya, who is an indigene of the host community, Winkogo, and an old student of the school, noted that all efforts must target improvement in academic performance as he commends the old students for their dedication to the growth of the school.

He appealed to old students, teachers, and students to uphold values such as excellence, integrity, and unity adding students of the school should strive to maintain the legacy of excellence.

Mr. Adimazoya lamented how the lack of a fence wall in the school is affecting the ability of authorities to maintain discipline.

“Let us not only celebrate the successes of the past but also reaffirm our commitment to the future of Bolgatanga Senior High School. To the current students of Bolgatanga Senior High, I urge you to seize every opportunity that comes your way and it is through your hard work and dedication that we will continue to uphold the legacy of excellence that underpins Bolgatanga Senior High School. One of our challenges is the lack of a fence wall that is having a toll on discipline.” He added
