When Senior High Schools in the Upper East Region met at the GNAT Hall in Bolgatanga on June 21, 2024 for the National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) regional qualifiers, one school reigned superior.
It was the school that travelled several kilometres from Navrongo, the capital of the Kasena-Nankana Municipality to the venue where the schools had gathered to showcase their academic prowess in science for the 6 slots available.
Navrongo Senior High School (NAVASCO) did more than just beating the 2 schools they had been grouped with for a spot at the National Championship.
They secured the highest points of the contest, literarily beating all other contesting schools of day one of the qualifiers.
NAVASCO faced off with Paga Senior High School and China Senior High School in the first contest of the day.
But it was no contest.
The NAVASCANS, who described themselves as “Light of the North”, outclassed their opponents even before the start of the competition.
They opened the contest with a lead and kept widening it till the final whistle when they had amassed 51 points.
Their opponents – Paga SHS and China SHS – only managed to obtain a paltry 3 and 2 points respectively.
Bolgatanga Senior High School (BIG BOSS) emerged winners of the second contest, also booking a slot at the national competition.
But BIG BOSS’s performance has been described as poor after they won with just 18 points, beating their main contenders, Bawku SHS by just a point.
Fumbiisi SHS placed last with 7 points.
The virtuous ladies of Bolgatanga Girls’ Senior High School (BOGISS) made a return to the competition at the national level after beating Our Lady of Lourdes Girls’ SHS, Mirigu SHS and Awe SHS with 30 points as against 11 points and 9 points each respectively.
