Senior Vice President of IMANI Africa, Kofi Bentil has admonished contestants of the 3 schools competing in the grand finale of the National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) not to hinge their hopes of victory on God.

Mr. Kofi Bentil said this ahead of the commencement of the grand finale contest in which defending champions, Presbyterian Boys’ Senior High School, Legon (Presec) is facing off with Prempeh College and Keta Senior High/Technical School (Ketasco).

All 3 schools have been chanting slogans which express their faith in divinity for victory. While the Presecans who are aiming for their 7th trophy say they are “Seven a living God”, the lads from Prempeh College in the host region say they want to win the trophy for the 5th time to “Glori5 God”. The Ketascan who are making their first appearance in the grand finale say they are serving a “1 wonder God”, indicating their faith in God to grant them their first win of the NSMQ trophy.

But reacting to these religious slogans, the Senior Vice President of IMANI Africa advised the contestants not to put their hopes on God for a win. He explained that God does not give anyone advantage over another in a competition as that will be unfair in the eyes of the Supreme Being.

He said while God may grant their prayers for retentive memory, he will not help any of the schools to win the contest over the others.

“#NSMQ God doesn’t give anyone advantage in a competition. It will be wrong to do so. Of course pray and ask for help to remember what you’ve studied, but don’t think God is helping you against the others. They all prayed to him!” he said

The grand finale contest of the 2021 edition of the National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) is currently ongoing in the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in the Ashanti Regional capital, Kumasi.
