Vice president Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has revealed that the New Patriotic Party(NPP) government’s use of a dedicated website to account for government’s projects is a first in Africa, stressing that only a handful of governments in other continents have provided such a transparent platform to account for projects undertaken or being undertaken by them.
Speaking on Daybreak Upper East on Bolgatanga-based A1 Radio today, Thursday November 12, 2020, Dr Bawumia disclosed that he, as well as the government, has received praise from international institutions following the successful launch of the delivery tracker, which hosts all government projects on single site for ease of reference.
“…What we have done with the delivery tracker, Samuel, no government in Africa has been able to do that. We are the first government in Africa to do it. And probably one of the very few in the world to do this. And I have had various comments from international institutions…personally to me from people who work in some of those international institutions, congratulating me and congratulating the government for what we have done with the delivery tracker; because the good thing about it is that it is transparent, and it is accountable. So everybody can go and see. And if it not there, you say it is not there and we find out why it is not there,” he told the host of the show.
In August this year, the Government of President Akufo-Addo launched www.deliverytracker.gov.gh, a website that contains all of its infrastructural projects since it assumed the reins of power in January 2017.
The website was launched by Vice President, Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia in a ‘Town Hall Meeting’ held at the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences auditorium in Accra on Tuesday, August 18.
“The infrastructure data when you get to this address can be obtained either by sectors like education, health, agriculture and the rest. You can also search by region specifics as well, or you can go by districts. So everything can be found on this website…As the name implies, the delivery tracker is a portal where the status of delivery of government promises and also infrastructural projects. It will enhance transparency and accountability in governance. It will also enable the government to ensure that uncompleted projects are prioritized in the process of capital budgets,” Dr Bawumia had said at the launch.
The website has been criticised by some Ghanaians, especially members of the opposition National Democratic Congress as containing non-existent projects and false description of the level of completion of the projects. But Government has defended the site, saying information it is credible and accurate.
