The Upper East Regional Vice-Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bampil Badeabo Moses has disproved claims by former president John Dramani Mahama regarding the planned Garu District Hospital.
The former president and flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress said during his campaign tour in the Bawku zone that construction of the hospital had begun under his administration and accused the current government of abandoning the project.
But in a press release referencing media reports and official government statements, Bampil Moses disproved the former president’s claims.
“Mr John Mahama’s claim that he started building the Garu District hospital but it has been abandoned by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is not only FALSE but a direct insult to the intelligence of the people of Garu”.
He said although funds were secured for 7 hospitals including that of Garu and a site subsequently procured, no work had been done except the clearing of the site.
However, the former president, while in office, consistently claimed that work had begun and that it was progressing, he said.
The NPP regional Vice-Chairman described as mind boggling, Mr. Mahama’s insistence that his government started the construction of a hospital in the area despite residents refuting same in the past.
“As I write, the bare land site is now a bush begging for the hospital building. It is strange and mind boggling to hear the same president Mahama claiming falsely after several years of his failed promises and deception to the good people of Garu that he started building a hospital for Garu and that the NPP government led by H.E Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has refused to complete it”.
While demanding answers on the whereabouts of the funds meant for the project, Bampil asked the former president to apologize to the people of the constituency for his continuous falsehood and deception.
“Former President Mahama must be humble enough to apologize to the good people of Garu for this dishonest and misleading statement”.
He also refuted Mr. Mahama’s allegation that materials meant for the construction were stolen at the site, arguing that the contractor sold the materials to settle the caretaker of the site.
Mr. Bampil said unlike John Mahama and his NDC, the NPP government has commenced the building of district hospitals in both Garu and Tempane and will see to their completion. He is, therefore, urging voters in the area to “stand with the NPP party that has consistently delivered on its promises”.
