The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced the dismissal of 4 of its stalwarts for supporting a presidential candidate other than the party’s elected candidate Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
The 4; Hopeson Adorye, former Communication Director Yaw Buaben Asamoa, former General Secretary of the party Nana Ohene Ntow and former Inner Cities and Zongo Minister Boniface Abubakar Saddique were key members of the Campaign Team of Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen when he was running for the flagbearership of the NPP.
Following Mr. Kyerematen’s decision to resign from the NPP and contest the 2024 Elections as an independent candidate, they have remained loyal to him and have publicly declared their support for his candidature.
The action by the 4 men, the NPP in a statement said, is in breach of the party constitution and automatic forfeiture of their membership of the party.
“In spite of their flagrant breach of the party’s Constitution particularly Articles 3(5)(A)(4) and 3(9)(1), the afore-named men still hold themselves out as members of the NPP”.
“In line with these constitutional provisions, it is the view of the NPP that Hopeson Adorye, Nana Ohene Ntow, Boniface Abubakar Saddique and Yaw Buaben Asamoa have automatically forfeited their membership of the party,” it said, adding, “they are, therefore, no longer members of the party”.
While urging members to remain true to their responsibilities to the party, the statement signed by the General Secretary of the NPP Justin Kodua Frimpong reminded them of the need for unity among the rank and file in their quest to win next year’s elections.
“The NPP entreats its members to remain true to their duties as per Article 3(5) of the party Constitution. We further call upon our members to bear in mind that Party’s focus is to unite its ranks and rally the support of Ghanaians to make history by winning the 2024 general elections”.
