Former president, John Dramani Mahama has discredited a survey conducted by the Political Science Department of the University of Ghana which predicted a 51.7 percent win for president Akufo-Addo in the December polls.
In an interview with JoyNews, John Dramani Mahama alleged that lecturers at the Political Science Department of the country’s premiere university, who conducted the survey, were paid to fabricate the opinion poll in favor of the presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
“When you are cooking the polls, of course, they will point in your favor. You saw the example of University of Ghana recently where people were paid to manufacture a fake poll saying that the NPP was going to win,” he alleged.
The results of the survey conducted by the Political Department of the University of Ghana projected that the NPP presidential is likely to win the polls by 51.7 percent.
The survey, which involved 100 constituencies carefully selected across the 16 regions with 11,949 respondents out of a targeted 12,000 in a random sampling manner, also projected that Mr. Mahma, who is the Flag bearer of NDC, will only manage 40.4 percent in the upcoming Elections.
Other opinion polls have also predicted a win for the governing party’s presidential candidate.
Renowned pollster, Ben Ephson, who predicted a win for Mr. Mahama in the 2016, has also projected that president Akufo-Addo will be re-elected.
But the reacting to the outcome of the opinion polls, Mr. Mahama contended that the polls predicting a win for his closed contender are not credible.
According to him, his party has conducted its survey that indicates that it will win the December polls both presidential and parliamentary.
Though he did not disclose the margin by which his party will win the presidential election, he said the NDC’s polls indicate that it will win between 143 and 145 majority of seats in parliament.
“So there are a lot of polls that are manufactured. We’ve done our own polling and we are quite confident (of winning). One of our polling indicates that we are winning majority in parliament. So that is a given. We’re aiming between 143 and 145 seats,” he stated.
