Award-winning investigative journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni has regretted for earlier praising the governing New Patriotic Party(NPP) for not erecting giant billboards across the country as the December 7 General Elections approach.
In a post recanting his earlier praise for the NPP for not behaving like the National Democratic Congress(NDC) in 2016 when it was in power, Mr Azure Awuni said that he was too quick to praise the NPP and that the party has shamed him by littering everywhere with campaign posters and billboards.
“I think I was too quick to praise the NPP for not littering everywhere with campaign posters and billboards. They’ve shamed me,” he said on Facebook.
Mr Azure Awuni had earlier this year been very generous with his praise of the NPP when he observed that the party had not yet erected billboards across the country.
He compared the NPP with the NDC, which as the incumbent party “littered” the country in 2016 with their billboards.
His latest post means that the NPP merely delayed in erecting the billboards and posting their campaign posters across the country.
The use of billboards has become key in electioneering campaigns in the country. The two dominant parties – the NDC and NPP – have used billboards extensively in their campaigns. Incumbent parties usually outdo opposition parties with the erection of truly large billboards.
