Gender Minister Cynthia Morrison has cleared the New Patriotic Party parliamentary candidate for Tamale Central Constituency of any wrongdoing in the branding of food packs for some Junior High School students in the constituency.

Following an announcement by President Nana Akufo-Addo to feed Junior High School students preparing for the Basic Education Certificate Examinations, videos emerged showing branded packs of food with 2020 election campaign stickers of Dr. Ibrahim Anyars, the NPP Parliamentary candidate for Tamale Central Constituency.

The development was condemned by stakeholders with a statement issued by Dr. Anyars, stating his non-involvement in the branding exercise.

Speaking at a press briefing on Wednesday in Accra, Minister for Gender and Social Protection Cynthia Morrison suggested that the branding was carried out by unknown persons for mischievous purposes.

She stated emphatically that a previous incident where the picture of the candidate and his opponent were put on a campaign flyer pointed to the handy work of some faceless individuals.

“I called him(Dr. Anayars) to find out and he had no idea,” she said.

She added that “I believe that there is a sabotage somewhere but we are still looking into it….For the PC’s picture on it, it is not him…I can say on authority that he did not authorize anybody to do that”.

The Minister also downplayed the political effects of a similar act that captured a teacher demanding students to recite a campaign slogan for President Nana Addo before collecting their food.

She noted that the teacher was immersed in excitement, adding that “the children don’t even vote”.
