Musician Kwame Asare Obeng (Alias A Plus) has defended daughters of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, who have been accused by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) of using their father’s influence to force money out of state institutions, notably the GCB Bank.
For A Plus, our focus should be on the humanitarian work being executed by the three daughters of the President through their foundation, not merely the source of the funds, which he argues, is a non-issue as well.
“Ok so what is wrong with an NGO writing for sponsorship and getting it? We are not talking about all the children suffering from hole in heart these ladies are helping. We are not talking about the water they are providing to underprivileged communities.
We are not talking about the emergency healthcare they are giving to poor people. We are not talking about the scholarships the foundation is given to young ladies. Why are we only interested in the sponsorship they got. It is not fair. I’ve explicitly expressed disappointment in Nana Addo and his government but charley, this one is no news!!!” He stressed on social media.
Mr A Plus noted the politics of unjustifiably accusing persons related to Presidents of wrongdoing must end. He recalled that when John Mahama was President, the New Patriotic Party(NPP) wrongly accused him of winning contracts because of his blood relationship with the President, and alleged that he was able to dredge the Odor River because his brother, the President, made it possible. These accusations, A Plus asserts, are false and unfair to relations of Presidents.
“This is the same thing NPP did to Ibrahim Mahama when he was dredging the Odor river for us for free. We made so much noise about how he was awarding contracts to himself because his brother was the president which was total falsehood. The man was actually doing it with his own equipments as a corporate social responsibility. Now you see how NDC is also paying you back? When I say let’s stop this kind of politics you’ll come and insult me. It’s not not not. It must end!” He urged the NPP and NDC.
He emphasized that the three sisters have done no wrong soliciting funds from state institutions, which willingly donate to them.
Background.
Yesterday, the NDC’s National Communications Officer, Sammy Gyamfi alleged that daughters of President Akufo-Addo – Gyankroma, Valerie and Edwina – has set up a Company, The Sister’s Keepers, ostensibly to compel state institutions to make donations to it for their use.
He alleged that the daughters were using the funds for activities unknown. But A Plus has hit back saying the funds are being put into the humanitarian work of the ladies.
