Former President John Dramani Mahama has touted the National Democratic Congress’ track record of appointing women into key positions in the management of the affairs of the country.

According to him, the opposition NDC gives women better opportunities to excel than any other political party in Ghana.

Delivering his speech at an event to outdoor his Vice Presidential candidate Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, the NDC flag bearer recounted key positions that were occupied by women at the behest of past NDC governments.

“It was the NDC that presented Ghana’s first female Speaker of Parliament, the first female Foreign Minister, the first female Attorney General, the first female Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, the first female Chairperson of the National Commission for Civic Education and the first female Chairperson of the Council of State,” he said.

He stated that “NDC, recognize and appreciate the knowledge, industry, passion, creativity and problem-solving skills of our women.”

The former President named the former education minister as his running mate, a decision many have commended and described as a great value added to the advocacy for gender equality and access to equal opportunities.

“The NDC has a lot to show when it comes to putting women at the forefront of leadership. Females constitute about 50% of Ghana’s population and women form the majority of Ghana’s human resource. They must lead to advance our nation’s progress,” he added.

Mr Mahama assured that the next NDC government will embark on many bold and progressive changes towards harnessing the potentials of women.
