Educationist, Prof. David Millar has rated low governments of both the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the fight against graft.
Prof. Millar, who is a former PRO Vice-Chancellor of the University for Development Studies (UDS), said both parties and their governments have engaged in mind games with regards to combating the canker.
“I rank both governments less than 1,” he stated in an interview on Breakfast Today.
According to him, the two main political parties and their governments have each enabled graft in various ways but would turn around to blame the other for the pervasive nature of the canker.
This, for him, is just a mind game by the two parties and their members to continue amassing wealth through corrupt means.
“It seems to be a game. ‘let me allow 50 people to be corrupt and I will catch 5 or 10” and then you will allow 100 people to be corrupt and you will 20 then I will come and taunt and said ‘I have done better than you’. That’s the game they are playing,” he stated.
He argued that any political party and a government serious about eradicating rot would focus on preventing it from occurring and not wait till when it happens then they prosecute few suspects and claiming a superior record in the fight.
“If you want to fight corruption, stop it from happening. Don’t let happen and you prosecute. Don’t strengthen the institutions that prosecute, strengthen the institutions that prevent. It’s a simple human phenomenal”.
