Simon Akibange Aworigo, the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Navrongo Central has defeated his main and only contender Abdallah Otito Werseh Achuliwor of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) to retain the seat for the NDC.
Simon Aworigo amassed 26,190 votes to stun Otito Achuliwor, who managed 12,203 votes.
The NPP lost the Navrongo Central seat in 2020 due to deep-seated cracks within the party in the area that resulted from an acrimonious primary that saw Joseph Kofi Ada, who was then the incumbent Member of Parliament, lose the NPP ticket to Tangoba Abayage.
With the election of Otito Achuliwor, the governing party was hoping to reclaim the seat in this election.
It was, however, not to be as Simon Aworigo has retained the seat for the NDC.
