Official of the National Security who was caught in a video assaulting an officer of the Ghana Armed Forces has been interdicted.

The interdiction of the said National Security official identified as Gerard Nana Osei-Tutu was upon the instructions of president Nana Addo Dankwa. A full-scale investigation has also been launched into the circumstances surrounding the incident by the Minister for National Security.

According to a statement signed by the Minister for Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, the president who is the Commander-In-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces is displeased with the action of the National Security operative hence, his instructions.

While stressing the significance of the Military in the country’s security architecture, the statement served notice that the government will not countenance any infringement on the institution of the Ghana Armed Forces and its officers.

“The President of the Republic and Commander in Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has learnt with dismay reports of an attack on a soldier by an official of the Bureau of the National Communication of the National Security Council Secretariat, Gerard Nana Osei-Tutu.

Upon the President’s instruction, the Ministry responsible for National Security, has interdicted, with immediate effect, the said Mr. Gerard Nana Osei-Tutu and has commenced a full investigation into the incident,” it said.

It added that “the military constitute a key layer in the country’s security architecture. Any infringement on the institution and its officers will not be tolerated.”

Gerard Nana Osei-Tutu, an official of the Bureau of National Communications of the National Security Council Secretariat was caught in a video allegedly attacking a Senior Non-commissioned Officer of the Ghana Armed Forces identified as WO1 Mashud Salia.

According to a report by the Chronicle Newspaper, Mashud Salia was handcuffed and physically assaulted by the now interdicted National Security operative for failing to give way to a convoy of four vehicles.

The incident which reportedly occurred on the Tema-Akosombo Highway at Ashaiman Tulaku Section on November 25, 2020 attracted commuters and motorists who watched in disbelief as the soldier was being slapped by the said National Security operative.

The incident is said to have raised tensions within the military high command.
