Former Special Prosecutor, Martin A. B. K Amidu has sent a word of caution to the government of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) led by President Akufo-Addo, saying that if it continues to provoke him with responses following his resignation, he will be compelled to respond and the situation could become unpalatable.
Speaking for the first time after his resignation, Mr Amidu noted that he was speaking so as to clear the air on allegations by Assin Central Member of Parliament Kennedy Agyapong that he had visited Germany to seek medical care, stressing that such falsehoods against him could provoke him to spill the beans on happenings while he was Special Prosecutor that he has restrained himself from talking about.
“I have said that I was not going to talk to the press since my resignation. I’m being pushed by so-called responses to me, which contain blatant falsehoods.
But I do not want anybody to blame me when I speak out and it becomes unpalatable. So, either the attacks stop or I’ll defend my integrity. It is something I won by dint of hard work from PNDC till date. So I will not allow anybody, not even the President, to pull that integrity into the mud,” he warned in an exclusive interview with Citi News’ Umaru Sanda Amadu.
He accused Kennedy Agyapong of lying about his having visited Germany for medical care, insisting he has never visited Germany for any purpose at all.
“Kennedy Agyapong is known in Ghana as someone who spews lies at any person of integrity who tries to fight corruption. So I am not surprised that he stooped that low to make accusations without any foundation…I have never been to Germany on any occasion and let alone for a medical check, therefore, his allegations are false. And if he has any document to the contrary, he should produce them because my passports are available as evidence,” he stated.
Mr Amidu resigned as Special Prosecutor on Monday, November 16, 2020, alleging among others interference in his work.
