The Bolgatanga Municipality will be elevated to the status of a Metropolis in the next administration of the National Democratic Congress.
This according to the party will strengthen the country’s local governance system and accelerate development.
While promising to pay Assembly Members, the NDC 2020 manifesto said it will “upgrade Ho, Kasoa, Ashiaman, Techiman, Koforidua, Sunyani, Bolgatanga, Hohoe and Wa Municipal Assemblies into Metropolitan Assemblies within the first year of coming into office”.
The manifesto which has been christened ‘The People’s Manifesto’ also contains a promise to build an airport for the upper east region.
Former President John Dramani Mahama noted that the construction of the domestic airport will be continued on a land which was secured when he was President.
Meanwhile, the manifesto promises to reverse and in some situations scrap some policies and programs implemented by the governing New Patriotic Party including the scrapping of the Customs Amendment Bill which bans the importation of salvaged vehicles.
