First Lady, Rebecca Akufo-Addo has made a passionate appeal to the Ghanaian electorates to renew the mandate of her husband, president Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

According to the First Lady, president Akufo-Addo has fulfilled his campaign pledges to the Ghanaian people and discharged his duties diligently as leader of the country without any blemish.

She said though Ghana is an enabling environment where dreams and aspirations could be realized, there is a need for a visionary leader like her husband who, she argued, has what it takes to ensure the realization of those dreams and aspirations.

She has, therefore, passionately appealed to the electorates to vote for the re-election of president Akufo-Addo for the progress and prosperity of the country.

“Ghana may be a land of possibilities but what I have seen from these last four years is that our children can only attain their fullest potential if we have a leader who is obsessed with these possibilities and who would not catch any sleep until young boys can have a country to believe in and young girls can dare to dream; to be Presidents, Business Leaders, Scientists or First-ladies if they choose to,” she posited.

She added “fellow Ghanaians, this is why I appeal to you passionately in this election. Whether you are a first-time voter or have voted in previous elections, I humbly implore that you let your voices be heard more than ever. That you put our country first and vote massively for President Akufo-Addo and the NPP to protect our progress and make Ghana a beacon of hope to the world.”

In the run-up to the 2016 Elections, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo who was the presidential candidate of the then opposition NPP made the fight against corruption his major campaign message promising to fiercely tackle the canker and protect the interest of the Ghanaian people.

However, few years into his reign, he has been criticized by anti-graft organizations and anti-corruption crusaders for failing to tackle the canker. He has also been accused of favoritism and taking decisions that do not only enable corruption but protect perpetrators of corruption especially following the recent corruption risk assessment report by the Office of the Special Prosecutor and accusation leveled against the president by former Special Prosecutor, Martin Amidu.

But Defending her husband’s record in governance, Rebecca Akufo-Addo contended that the president has not relented in his pledge to tackle the canker and protect the interest of the Ghanaian people.

She argued that although the president has taken decisions that appear unpopular among the populace, his quest to ensure the progress of the country cannot be doubted.

“Know that leading this great nation comes with its own burdens. There are some days when you have to take decisions that are unpopular and there are days when it would feel like everybody disagrees with your stance. Indeed, there is a part of our country that constantly questions your loyalty to the nation, your commitment to her peace and progress and your faith in Ghana’s institutions and her people. And often than not, you are called to do something about it because when you are President, doing nothing is the hardest job of all.

But we have in my husband, a man whose faith in the goodness of this country is unwavering. He neither quavers in despair nor shirks responsibility even if it feels convenient,” she argued forcefully.
