The Upper East Regional Minister, Dr. Hafiz Bin-Salih, is optimistic that the various district and municipal assemblies in the region will through the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP), improve the road situation in the Upper East Region.
Speaking Tuesday after inspecting some wheel loaders, tipper trucks, rollers, and bulldozers amongst others that have, so far, been brought to the region, the Minister explained that the District Road Improvement Programme would not only see to the improvement of the roads sector but also lead to the employment of many Ghanaian Youth.
He stated that the region is expected to receive 117 pieces of equipment made of 9 different categories of equipment to be utilized by the Assemblies.
It would be recalled that President Akufo-Addo in the dying days of July, launched the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP), which would see to the deployment of 2,240 units of equipment comprising motor graders, backhoes, rollers, bulldozers, wheel loaders, water tankers, concrete mixers, tipper trucks, low beds and other machinery.
The equipment is said to have been acquired through collaboration between the District Assembly Common Fund (DACF) and the Ministry of Local Government, Decentralization and Rural Development.
The regional Minister further assured the public of his outfit’s readiness to ensure the proper utilization of the equipment.
“For us in the Upper East Region, we are expecting 117 pieces of equipment made up of 9 different categories of equipment and I am here to see those that have arrived in the region so that after the inspection, can deploy them to the various assemblies.”
“I believe strongly that under the DRIP, most of our roads will be improved upon and aside from the improvement in the roads sector, it would also create employment avenues. Each of the assemblies is expected to employ 30 operators. In all 450 people would be employed and so, you can imagine, just procuring this equipment, 450 vacancies have been created. I expect that the assemblies will put this equipment to good use.” The Minister stated.
