The Meat Factory in Bawku constructed under the government’s 1 District 1 Factory policy is yet to be operationalized because the contractor, who were there to install the machinery, had to run for their lives, the Municipal Chief Executive has said.

Although the building was completed about 3 years ago, the machinery was only procured months ago and was set to be installed immediately.

But the installation was disrupted by disturbances that broke out in the area, the MCE said.

According to him, while the contractor were fixing the equipment, gunshots were continually fired, killing a man close to the area.

He said but for the timely intervention of security personnel, who escorted them out of danger, they could have lost their lives.

The incident scared them so much so that they have refused to return to continue the installation, he stated.

“That sort of scared the people who came to install the machines and in fact, they were trapped, God saved them. If not for the 3 military guys who were very close to the area, they would have been dead. The military pulled them out and escorted them out of the town”.

Amadu Hamza is, however, hopeful that the equipment will be fixed and the factory begin operations by August.

“We would want to do everything latest in August, provided everything goes on as planned. We will do everything in August. It won’t take more than 2,3 days for the installation to be completed”.
