The West African Examination Council (WAEC) says it is awaiting part payment of an outstanding 118,000,0000 it is owed to continue with the marking of objectives papers and other post examination processes.
Following the conduct of the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination from August to September, the Council said it had began and completed the marking of “essays and other practical components of the papers” and was now scanning “objectives cards” when its scanners broke down.
The development, it indicated, stalled the marking processes and it has been unable to fix them due to financial constraints.
It is, therefore, “awaiting the release of additional funds out of the outstanding balance of 118,000,000 from the Ministry of Education for the repair of the scanners to enable the scanning process and other post examination processes to continue smoothly”.
The examining body appealed to its officials and suppliers, who are owed, to bear with it, assuring that “payment for their services will be made as soon as the needed funds are released from the Ministry of Education”.
It also urged the general public to disregard reports that the Council has set a date for the release of the results, stating that “the results will be released as soon as the challenges being experienced with the post-examination activities are resolved”.
