The District Chief Executive for Talensi Thomas Duanab Wuni has described as infantile moves by the President-elect and his incoming administration to recover purported stolen state resources and bring culprits to book through the muchtouted Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL).

Duanab Wuni argued that the state has in place several anti-corruption agencies to deal with issues of such nature hence, creating a separate body that has no constitutional backing and which seems to rival the existing establishment is unwarranted.

“You win an election and the next morning, you say operation recover loot, that’s infantile. I don’t see that to have any direction. There are institutions in this country that if people are found culpable, they should be looking up to those institutions,” Duanab Wuni said.

He believes the setting up of the ORAL team, in particular, undermines the bodies mandated to tackle graft in the country and could plunge the country into chaos.

“You win an election and the next morning, you are telling people that you are forming groups to go back and recover loots, from where? Where are you recovering the loots from? When you do that, you create problems.”

He added, “We have institutions in this country that can do this work. I’m happy they say it is voluntary. So if you call me, I won’t come. What is your mandate?”

The DCE was speaking on power transitioning in an interview on Breakfast Today on Dreamz FM in the wake of the outcome of the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections.

He noted that there are no clear rules governing the transition of power in Ghana especially when there is a change in government , making the process messy.

He is, therefore, advocating the establishment guidelines to smoothen the process.

Following his overwhelming victory in the December 7 polls, President-elect John Dramani Mahama has set up a 5-member team as part of the ORAL.

The team, made of human rights activists and critics of the outgoing government, has been tasked to gather evidence regarding suspected acts of corruption.

But a section of the public has criticized the move, questioning the constitutionality of the team’s mandate.
