Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga Central Isaac Adongo believes persons advising President John Dramani Mahama on appointments and formation of his government kicked against his (Adongo’s) nomination for the position of a deputy minister.
Speaking on Asempa FM in Accra, Isaac Adongo stated that the said individuals felt “that I’m above to be deputy minister.”
However, Adongo said he would have gladly accepted to be a deputy minister if he were offered, stating it is a privilege to be invited by the President to serve in his government.
“Under no circumstance did I reject a deputy minister appointment,” he stated, adding, ” If it was offered to me, and that is the capacity the old man (the President) wants me to serve him, I wouldn’t say no. If you are called upon by His Excellency to serve in any capacity, it’s a privilege”.
The Bolgatanga Central MP had been highly tipped to land the substantive post of a Finance Minister.
But when that slipped away, some consoled themselves with the fact that he could still be considered for a Deputy Finance Or Trade Minister.
However, he also lost out on the two deputy ministerial positions as the President nominated different people to fill the two vacant positions.
Isaac, though, believes he would have been considered for a deputy ministerial position but for President’s advisors who felt he (Adongo) is too qualified to be a deputy minister.
on the substantive Finance Minister position, the Bolgatanga Central MP said appointing him for the position ahead of Cassiel Ato Forson would have gone against parliamentary convention.
He stated that Ato forson had been his superior in Parliament thus, it was only appropriate that the former Minority Leader be made Finance Minister ahead of him (Adongo).
Adongo said although he expected to be made a minister, he believes the President “has not forgotten about me”.
“Maybe, my time is not up. But when my time is up, nobody can stop it.”
