Upper East Regional Minister Tangoba Abayage has delivered another punch at flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress over his decision to seek re-election as President of the Republic.
According to her, Mr. John Dramani Mahama should have been advised to stay clear off the Presidential race after he was rejected by Ghanaians in the 2016 elections.
Ms. Tangoba Abayage believes the former President would have been better off staying away from wanting to be elected into office again.
“It is John Mahama who was given 44.4% in 2016 and he is seeking re-election. I am saying that once he was asked to go home, NDC and his advisers should have advised him to stay home,” she said in an interview on GhOne TV monitored by dreamzfmonline.com.
In the assertion of the New Patriotic Party parliamentary candidate for the Navrongo Central constituency, picking a female running mate would not insulate John Dramani Mahama from the woeful performance he is known for which led to his defeat in the 2016 elections.
“It is because of his abysmal performance up till 2016 that made Ghanaians say we don’t want him again,” she added.
She further noted that though the selection of Prof. Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang as a running mate is a win for gender advocacy and women in leadership, the former Pro-Vice Chancellor of the Cape Coast University cannot become Vice President because the flagbearer of her party cannot win the 2020 elections.
Ms Abayage, is contesting the Navrongo central constituency seat on the ticket of the NPP facing a hard competition from the NDC’s Sampson Tangonbu Chiragia popularly called STC. She has expressed strong optimism that her opponent cannot win the seat against her.
“I have a message, a message of hope for the people of Navrongo. I have a message of my track record as regional minister and the track record of the NPP government” she said.
