Deputy Communications Director of the governing New Patriotic Party in the Upper East Region Andrew Atariwine says flagbearer of the leading opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) John Dramani Mahama does not have the capacity to run the country as president.
Making reference to campaign activities ahead of the 2024 elections, Atariwine said it took Mr. Mahama several months after his nomination as leader of the NDC to tour the entire country.
However, his main contender in the elections and flagbearer of the governing NPP, who was selected about 6 months later, Atariwine claimed, surpassed Mr. Mahama in the countrywide campaign tour, visiting all the 16 regions within a short period.
This, for him, is an indication that the former president does not have the capacity to run the country and thus, his bid for the presidency should be rejected.
“It took Bawumia to come and do a three-sixty of the sixteen regions before he (Mahama) could do that. So, it tells you that indeed, John Mahama, the capacity to do that, to run the country is not available,” he said.
“He doesn’t have what it takes to be able to run the country again and that is why we are excited that the Ghanaian people are seeing through the lines and nobody’s going to be wasting their time bending their heads”.
He argued that aside from demonstrating lack of capacity, Mr. Mahama and his party have not put forward any credible policy idea that will convince the electorates to return them to power.
“They haven’t presented any cogent realistic policy that invites the Ghanaian people to support it”.
These, coupled with the positioning on the ballot paper, in his view, give Dr. Bawumia an edge over the NDC presidential candidate.
“You will not be wasting your precious time going to be searching for people who are in the eighth, fourth ninth, tenth eleventh position when number one is beaming with smiles, willing to support, willing to engineer certain policies and ideas that can transform not only the economy of this country, but even the governance structure of our country,” he stated.
