Two of the 19 yet-to-be appointed ministers, who will form Cabinet in the Mahama administration, will likely be people, who hail from the Upper East Region, the Regional Communications Officer of the governing National Democratic Congress Abdallah Jonathan Salifu has said.
Already, President John Mahama’s pick for the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, which is a Cabinet position, is from the region.
But Abdallah Jonathan stated that one more of such Cabinet Ministerial appointments will go to someone from the Upper East Region.
The specific ministerial position he did not mention but hinted it could be Minister of Defence or Interior.
“Upper East, we are likely to have two Cabinet Ministers from all indications,” he statement in an interview on State of Our Nation on Dreamz FM.
“Whether it is defense, whether it is interior, whether it is education, whether it is science and technology or rules, then it is equal cabinet,” he added.
The NDC’s Regional Communications Officer said this while speaking on the President’s first set of ministerial nominees.
Many in the NDC in the Region were confident that the Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga Central Constituency Isaac Adongo, will be made Minister of Finance if the party won the 2024 elections.
As a result, the nomination of Cassiel Ato Forson for the position, instead of Adongo, sparked criticism with some especially members of the main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) ridiculing the Bolgatanga Central lawmaker.
But Abdallah Jonathan said all is not lost for Isaac Adongo.
The MP and several others from the region will be nominated for Ministerial and Deputy Ministerial positions in due course, Abdallah stated.
