NDC PRESS CONFERENCE

Host of Eyewitness News on Accra based Citi fm Umar Sanda Amadu has served notice that journalists and media practitioners in the country will soon boycott events and programs of the opposition National Democratic Congress if the verbal attacks on journalists and media houses in the country continue.

According to him, the leadership of the NDC have set out to incite their supporters against the media in Ghana in order to cover up for their failure to steer the party to victory.

“It turns out, your party leaders haven’t learnt from 2016. So they keep screaming that they’ve been cheated, yet, there is no hard collated results to prove this. That’s disappointing for a party that ushered us into democracy.

Please stop the attacks on journalists. Turn your anger against those you chose to help you win and have them explain what went wrong. Let them tell you, why for over a year, a huge party like the NDC could not revive a major media house like Radio Gold which could have been its mouthpiece this period,” he wrote in response to criticism of the media by the NDC in the aftermath of the elections.

Top rated media houses and journalists in Ghana have been heavily criticized with some served with raw dozes of insults following the calling of the presidential election for the New Patriotic Party’s Nana Akufo-Addo.

The NDC has chided and accused the media of aiding what they have described as a stolen verdict relative to the 2020 elections.

However, Mr. Umar Sanda who obviously could not bear the incessant attacks on himself and colleagues in the media fraternity dismissed the claims and accusations being made.

He argued that “Media houses are not by law, entitled to copies of the pink sheets. Your party agents are. It is therefore shocking that your leaders are inciting you against us.  They are simply passing the buck and I urge you not to pay heed.

Hold your party leaders responsible for your defeat (albeit disputed). If there is anything we learnt from the 2012 Election Petition, it is that ELECTIONS ARE WON AT THE POLLING STATION”.

He noted that calls for media houses to make public their independence tallied results as flawed because “There were over 38,000 polling stations in this election. No media house has sent up to 1,000 journalists to cover the election”.

The prime time news program show host served notice that in no time, journalists will black out activities of the National Democratic Congress.
