Communications Director of the governing New Patriotic Party in the Upper East Region Peter Ayinbisa has confirmed reports that the late Deputy Minister of Finance John Ampontuah Kumah was among persons considered to partner flagbearer of the party for the December 7 polls.
Following the election Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as flagbearer, a couple of names had been bandied around as potential candidates to partner him for the general elections.
Dr. John Kumah featured in the list though there are others like the Minister of Energy Mathew Opoku Prempeh and Minister of Education Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum who have been highly tipped for the position.
Eulogising the former Deputy Minister of Finance following his demise, Peter Ayinbisa confirmed that he was being considered for the position.
“Speculations were right that he was one of the guys that people were tipping to be a running mate to Dr. Bawumia. Whether that was going to be so or not, I wouldn’t be able to tell.
But speculations have been that he was part of the people that people were tipping and looking at his demeanour, looking at his persona, looking at how he conducts himself, he was qualified to be a running mate to Dr. Bawumia”.
He stated that Dr. John Kumah was a key and dedicated member of the party and had conducted himself in his dealings to merit such a mission.
He described his death as a great loss to the party and the government as he convened the condolences of the party in the region to the bereaved family.
“So the party has lost a great asset, a giant has fallen. We are finding it very difficult to accept his passing”.
