Social activist Stanley Abopam says Members of Parliament for Bolgatanga Central and Nadam Isaac adongo and Dr. Mark Kurt Nawaane are not likely to be considered for ministerial positions in the Mahama government.
“It doesn’t look like, as we stand, Isaac or Kurt may get a ministerial appointment,” he stated on State of Our Nation on Dreamz FM on Thursday.
Although the Bolgatanga Central MP has distinguished himself serving as a lawmaker in the last 8 years and is deserving of a ministerial appointment, he is most unlikely to be made deputy minister, the only ministerial portfolios left, Abopam stated.
“I am a little uncomfortable with Isaac. I think that the young man has distinguished himself impeccably to have been considered. I think that he’s deserving.”
This, he said, is due to the limited number of vacancies and the need to ensure balanced representation in the government.
So far, the Upper East Region has received 2 nominations and both nominees are from the central part of the region.
For political convenience, the region is divided into 3 parts – East, Central and West.
Although Abopam is certain that, at least, one more person from the region will be considered for a deputy ministerial position, he said the pick will likely be from other parts of the region for the purpose of ensuring fairness.
He argued that the President will be bending conventional rules and the principle of fair representation in his government should he make another appointment from the Central where Adongo and Nawaane hail from.
“It is possible the president may consider Isaac for deputy ministerial appointment into the finance ministry. But that will be an exception. It will mean that the president will have been overlooking issues of regional balance.
And even within the region, he’ll have been also overlooking regional balance as per the partition of the region, i.e. for political expediency, east, west and central.”
