Upper East Regional Communications Officer of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) Abdallah Jonathan Salifu is confident that the Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga Central Constituency Isaac Adongo “will definitely be given the opportunity to serve” in the Mahama government.

He said although the MP lost out on the substantive Finance Ministerial position, there are other top portfolios that he could serve in, including the Deputy Finance Ministerial position.

“He’s equally qualified to be a finance minister. But I think since the finance minister has been announced, obviously there are other important positions like even being a deputy finance minister,” he stated in an interview on State of Our Nation on Dreamz FM.

For him, the position of a Deputy Minister will be a great starting point for Isaac Adongo given that he has not held any ministerial position before.

The MP, who was the Ranking Member of the Finance Committee of Parliament, could also be considered for a substantive or Deputy Trades and Industry Minister, Abdallah suggested.

“There are so many portfolios. Mahama can even still decide that, ‘look, go to the area of trade’, because he’s equally serving on the trade  committee in parliament.”

The NDC Regional Communications Officer’s assertions followed the list of 3 ministerial nominees announced by President John Dramani Mahama.

The list, which has been submitted to the Speaker of Parliament for consideration, includes Dr. Dominic Ayine designated for Minister of Justice and Attorney General, John Jinapor for Minister of Energy and Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson for Minister of Finance.

Isaac Adongo was highly tipped, ahead of the December 7 election, to be made the Finance Minister with his party using it as a bait to win votes.

Following the announcement, some members of the New Patriotic Party have taken to social media to ridicule the MP.

But in reaction, Abdallah Jonathan said all is not lost for the Bolgatanga Central lawmaker.
