Former General-Secretary of the Convention People’s Party (NPP) Nana Yaa Jantuah is surprised that the governing New Patriotic Party is seeking to be retained in power.
According to her, the party and its government have demonstrated sheer incompetence and insensitivity and should not be seeking to be kept in office.
Nana Yaa, who bemoaned the current affairs of the country, said Ghanaians had high hopes in the NPP and its then leader to turn things around.
But after assuming office, the party and its government have failed to not only sustain the little success the country had chalked but also worsened the economic situation, bringing untold hardships on Ghanaians, she said
“I’m even surprised that NPP wants to come back to come and do what? I’m surprised that the NPP is nurturing the hope of returning. They have performed so abysmally. A dollar to a cedi was 3.65 cedis. If I had 1 million cedis in 2017, it was 278,000 dollars. Today, one million cedis is 50,000 dollar or even less. Look at the difference,” she said.
While Ghanaians reel under these difficulties, she said the government, instead of taking steps to cushion them, has further burdened them with obnoxious taxes.
“It’s the incompetence of the government that’s what’s bringing all these troubles and Ghanaians are suffering and nobody cares”.
Nana Yaa believes the upcoming elections are an opportunity for Ghanaians to liberate themselves from bad governance and renew hope in the prospects of the country.
