Upper East Regional Minister Tangoba Abayage has rejected accusations of votes buying in the lead up to the 2020 parliamentary elections in the Navrongo Central constituency.
According to her, the widely witnessed support, donations and projects she is currently carrying out in the constituency are results of her ability to lobby and an indication of how much the constituency will benefit if she is elected member of parliament.
The parliamentary candidate of the opposition National Democratic Congress for the Navrongo Central constituency Sampson Tangombu Chiragia has raised concerns over madam Abayage’s frequent gestures in the form of cash support, donations and projects in the area in the lead up to the December polls.
This in the assertion of the candidate who is popularly called STC shows that his contender is buying votes and showcasing monetary superiority.
“She has money. I know we are giving her a very big margin even though she is trying to buy. She is giving money here and there, motorbikes, tailoring machines and everything but Navrongo is above that,” he told Accra based Joy news.
In a reaction seen by dreamzfmonline.com, the Regional Minister who doubles as the parliamentary candidate of the NPP for the Navrongo Central constituency dismissed the claims.
She wrote “I’m not buying votes. I’m living by the old adage: you can identify a fatty goat from the legs (bungu na wo neene kozege onagola ne mo)”.
She added “I’m an astute lobbyist. I’ve been lobbying all my life. Not only will I bring home what belongs to Navrongo Central, I’ll lobby for more than belongs to us and bring all that home. Navrongo Central deserves that and more”.
Ms. Abayage recently donated motorbikes, bills of clothes, drilled boreholes and extended support to some 150 persons in the constituency to enable them startup business by presenting to them 70 sowing machines, 35 hair dryers and 35 barbering kits. The apprenticeship fee of all beneficiaries will be paid for by her among other benefits.
