President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has said he is glad no Ghanaian anywhere in the country has been prevented from registering in the ongoing voter registration exercise.
Addressing muslims at the Kumasi Central mosque as part of the Eid ul-Adha celebration, the President expressed delight at the peaceful process of the ongoing registration exercise across the country.
“What I’m so happy about is as we all go out to register to vote, here in the Ashanti region and across the country there have not been disturbances. There has been peace and everyone has the opportunity to register,” he said.
He added “I have not heard about anyone visiting a registration centre and was prevented from registering. Everyone has the freedom to register. I have been told here in Asawase and Asokori Mampong, the registration is ongoing very well. We thank God for that.”
The President’s assertion comes at the back of reported violence at some registration centres in the country, with the recent report and circulation of video where persons in Banda in the Volta region were allegedly prevented by some military officers from registering.
President Nana Addo further admonished muslims to jealously protect the peace and unity Ghana is enjoying to ensure development and progress.
