Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has rejected assertions by a colleague Member of Parliament that he is arrogant.
According to him, such qualities have never been part of him because he is a ‘gentleman’.
Responding to an assertive comment made by Member of Parliament for Tamale Central constituency Inusah Fuseini to the effect that Mr. Oppong Nkrumah is arrogant, he responded “Arrogance is not one of my qualities. I may put up a spirited debate in defense of my President, my party and the administration but it is not out of arrogance or anything”.
He explained that the minority in parliament often choose a path that is unpatriotic during deliberations on significant transactions and business matters which ought to be called out.
“If I believe that a particular path they have chosen is unpatriotic, there should be no qualms with me calling it as such. There are many times when we are putting up a major deal like the Vodafone deal, ESLA deal, Synohydro deal and like this particular transaction when our colleagues on the other side essentially serve notice to the international investor community not to invest in what Ghana is putting on the table and that a potential NDC government will not recognize. We on the other side consider that as unpatriotic. So if I call that out it is not arrogance,” he told Paul Adom Ochere on Metro TV’s Good Evening Ghana.
Following a recent outburst by the minority Haruna Iddrisu in reaction to a running social media phrase used by the Information Minister on the floor of parliament, the former Joy fm Morning Show host reiterated that the use of that phrase was on a lighter note and not in contravention with parliamentary standing orders.
“I’m a gentleman and I don’t like to make non-issues issues. I want the substantive issues to be focused on and so I requested for it to be expunged and Mr. Speaker granted it,” he stated.
