SALAM MUSTAPHA, NPP NATIONAL YOUTH ORGANIZER ASPIRANT

National Youth Organizer aspirant of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Salam Mustapha says he will pay homage to the former Upper East Regional Youth Organizer of the party, Latif Solomon should he win the contest for the position.

According to Salam Mustapha, the late Latif Solomon believed in his competence to lead the youth wing of the NPP and had been instrumental in his decision to run for the position.

He disclosed that the former regional youth organizer, while he was alive, on a number of occasions, encouraged him to contest the position in the 2018 national executive elections of the party.

He (Mustapha), however, did not heed to the idea of running for the position as he was keen on furthering his education.

He said Latif Solomon followed up in 2019 after that elections and insisted that he run for the leadership of the party’s youth wing as he believed he has what it takes to make the youth front a formidable one.

This, he indicated, greatly influenced his decision to contest for the position in the upcoming national executive elections in July.

It is on the basis of this that he will be visiting Mr. Latif’s grave to pay homage to him in the event that he wins the contest.

“This dream of going for National Youth Organizer to a very large extent emanated from this region. May the soul of Latif Solomon rest in Perfect peace. Insha Allah, I will win and after that, I will come back and go to his grave side and tell him ‘bro, I have done it’. Latif came to me in 2017 to run for National Youth Organizer and I told him that ‘it’s not a bad idea but for some reason since I left University, I have not done my masters and I don’t feel right about it. So I’m starting my masters and likely if I finished and I want to go higher  and if I’m going to run it with a campaign and even run a youth wing, it might not go well. So let me finish with my masters and if I’m not going to further with a PhD, that is fine’

‘Please allow me to do this. In the next contest, I will still be qualified to run for the National Organizer post because I will still be under 40’. Quite hesitant, he said ok. He came back at a point I think just before the heat of the elections and said ‘why don’t you consider this’ and I told him ‘I’m in the heat of my master’s program so you let me finish. I don’t see why I should truncate it’. Latif came back to me in 2019 after we finished Koforidua and handed over, he told me that he is back again to tell me to run for the National Youth Organizer,” he stated.

He added “He knew me. We had been together. I used to frequently come to this region and we would go from polling station to station. I had done more than enough and the guy could see in my heart that I would serve and serve well”.

Salam Mustapha affectionately called SM said this in an interview on Dreamz FM as part of his tour of the Upper East Region.

The former Deputy Youth Organizer of the governing party is seeking the mandate of delegates in the upcoming national executive elections of the NPP to replace Henry Nana Boakye as National Youth Organizer.

He is facing stiff competition from 3 others for the position. But Salam Mustapha believes none of his contenders can match up to him in terms of experience and competence.
