Vice President Dr. Mahmudu Bawumia has said aside building infrastructure, government is meeting other essential needs of Ghanaians.

Addressing a Townhall Meeting in Accra on Tuesday August 18, 2020 to tout government’s achievements in the last three and half years, Dr. Mahmudu Bawumia said every initiative and policy embarked upon by government is aimed at contributing to a holistic development of the citizenry.

“We’re building all this infrastructure while staying committed to providing Free Senior High School Education, creating jobs, transforming agriculture, industrializing the economy, sustaining the National Health Insurance Scheme, digitizing the economy and ensuring public safety of Ghanaians and keeping the lights on,” he said.

According to him, building infrastructure alone is not sufficient to claim massive achievement, but that has to be accompanied with other complementary socioeconomic developments.

“If it comes to just infrastructure, anybody can build it. We’re not just building infrastructure. We’re building a nation,” he added.

Dr. Bawumia argued that “notwithstanding the impact of COVID-19 pandemic on the completion times of some projects, the data indicates that in the fourth republic, no government that has achieved so much in its first term in office in terms of infrastructure projects it initiated in its first term as the NPP government of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo”.

He also stated that government has initiated 17,334 infrastructure projects since 2017 with 8,746 completed.
