The Parliamentary Candidate aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Bolgatanga East Constituency of the Upper East Region, Mathew Silas Amoah, has hit back at the Member of Parliament for the constituency, saying he wonders if addressing developmental challenges in the constituency is not spending wisely.

“So, if an ambulance is broken and Mathew comes to repair it, if kids can’t pay their school fees and Mathew Amoah is helping them pay their school fees, if people are sick and Mathew Amoah helps them to pay their hospital bills, if people cannot feed and Mathew Amoah helps them to feed, is not spending wisely? Then I don’t know what spending wisely is.” He stated.

Dr. Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, during his filing to contest the NDC parliamentary primaries in March 2023 , advised Mr. Amoah to spend wisely in his bid to become a member of parliament for the area.

The MP, who subtly questioned the young man’s source of wealth, urged him to save his resources because he (Dr. Ayine) was going to retain the seat for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) .

Mr. Amoah took the Bolga East Constituency by storm after announcing his intentions to run for the seat with some saying he has injected a new lease of life into the constituency and is properly positioned to give the MP a run for his money going into the 2024 general elections.

If approved by the vetting committee of the party, Mr. Amoah will become the first parliamentary candidate of the NPP in Bolga East to go unopposed since the creation of the constituency.

Speaking in an interview with the media moments after donating 12,000 cedis to the Ambulance Service for the repair of the ambulance meant for the constituency, Mr. Amoah said he is delighted that he is going unopposed, adding it speaks of how united the party in the constituency is.

According to him, the NDC in Bolga East should be panicking, indicating that the decision to let him go unopposed is one borne out of the desire to see development and the appreciation of someone who is in the race to better the lot of the people.

He, therefore, expressed surprise at the MP for asking him to spend wisely when all he is doing in the constituency is to address developmental challenges the people in the area are confronted with.

“I wasn’t aiming at going unopposed but I think that my party people have sent a signal that they appreciate development, they appreciate hard work so I think the NPP, we are cool. The NDC should be panicking because the people indirectly tell us that they appreciate growth, they appreciate development, they want to see something new, and they want to see development. I wasn’t scared of a contest. I was ready to go”.
