Head coach of the senior national men’s team Chris Houghton believes Ghanaians are proud of the performance of the Black Stars in their second game against Egypt in the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in La Cote D’Ivoire.
The team lost in their opener in the tournament and were expected to win yesterday’s game against the Pharaohs of Egypt to stand a greater chance of progressing to the next stage.
Although the Black Stars took the lead in added-on time in the first half, a poor back pass by Inaki Williams led to an equalizer by Egypt.
Mohammed Kudus, who scored the first goal for the Black Stars, put Ghana in the lead again after scoring in the 71st minute of the match.
However, another blunder committed by Osman Bukari cost the Black Stars their much needed victory as the Egyptians scored and brought the score line to 2:2.
The outcome has left many Ghanaian football lovers disappointed as the team stands just a slim chance of qualifying for the round of 16.
But in a post match press briefing, Chris Houghton said his side put up a spectacular performance and he believes their support base back home would be impressed with their output on the field of play.
He said, however, the team will have to keep up with their performance in yesterday’s game in order to realize their bid to progress further.
“Even though we didn’t get the win, our support and we have millions of football fanatics in Ghana and I would like to think that at least, they would be proud of our performance,” Chris stated.
