Chairman for Parliament’s Finance Committee Mark Assibey Yeboah has asserted that his chances of winning the recently held parliamentary primaries of the New Patriotic Party would have been brighter if he held a ministerial position.

The New Juaben South NPP MP is one of the incumbent Members of Parliament who lost their bid to be re-elected to contest on the ticket of the party in the 2024 elections.

In an interview monitored on Joy FM by dreamzfmonline.com, the respected financial analyst said “Back home they think that if you are a minister or a deputy minister there’s a place for you in government but if you are left in Parliament as a Committee chairman there’s not so much importance is attached to your work.”

He explained that his current fate as a defeated parliamentary aspirant could have been different if he were appointed a minister.

Dr. Assibey Yeboah argued that delegates place significant value on ministerial positions than parliament committee chairmanship hence a reason for his loss.

He lost to the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Free Zones Board, Mr Michael Okyere Baafi.

Shortly after his defeat, Dr. Assibey Yeboah expressed worry over the attrition that parliament will suffer especially because a significant number of MP’s had lost in their primaries.
