Renowned sports Journalist and Acting General Manager for News at Media General, Michael Oti Adjei has said marriage is not part of his plans.
According to the sports journalist, although people may find it weird that is not planning to settle down considering his age, he is happy being single and has never considered getting married or raising a family.
“I never say never. I know somebody who said they would never get married but got married at 46. I know people who say they would never do it but they did it. But I have to be honest with you, when I wake up in the morning, when I was planning my life, marriage was never part of the equation. I was not the type who woke up and went to school and thought about marriage. When I factored my life and was clear in my mind about what I wanted to do, I never considered family a part of it. I’m happy to stay that way,” he stated in an interview on Accra-based Starr FM.
Mr. Oti Adjei, who believes marriage is overrated, added that he has been compassionate towards his nieces and nephews as well as less privileged children as a way of making up for not raising a family and to prove that one does not need to be married in order to be responsible.
“But I try to make up for that in different ways, I try to be a bit more compassionate towards my nieces and nephews, my junior brother has beautiful daughters, my senior brother has 3 great girls and my big sister lives in England with her 3 kids. So I keep my eyes on them on Instagram. I don’t have a son who is 17 years now but I have paid for people to go school and I don’t even remember their names.
I tried as much as I can to help someone through journalism school every year and I have done that for a few people. I want to do that as much good as possible. My thinking is that I should be able to prove to people that you don’t need marriage to prove that you are responsible enough, that you are compassionate enough,” he opined.
He also disclosed that he has son with his mistress and does not plan of having another child.
