Reggae musician and radio presenter, Abubakar Ahmed better known as Blakk Rasta has revealed that he does not smoke marijuana.

The ‘Barack Obama’ hitmaker said, although he belongs to the Rastafarian faith, he has never smoked the drug which is associate with his faith.

He explained that the usage of marijuana, which is one of the cardinal beliefs and practices of the Rastafarian faith, does not necessarily bound believers to smoke the drug since smoking is not the only way of using India hemp.

Blakk Rasta indicated that he uses the drug in other ways including ‘”steaming” himself with it especially in the peak of the Covid-19 pandemic as he believes the drug is capable of protecting him against the disease.

“I never blazed. I wish I was blazing so that I could tell the whole world that, yes, I blaze and feel high and feel good. I have never blazed anything blazable. It is true that the Rastafarian believes it is heavenly herb and should be used but smoking is just one out of million uses of Marijuana. (for instance, during the pandemic), I steamed up myself with it and killed the coronavirus with that terrible smoke that comes out of it” he stated.

He added that he is so “high” naturally that he believes he will become “the most high” should he venture into smoking marijuana.

“I think it was never my calling (to smoke marijuana). I’m so high naturally that I believe that if ever put another high in my system, I might end up being the most high”.

Blakk Rasta, however, disclosed that those who introduced him to the Rastafarian faith were all marijuana smokers.

As to how he became a Rastafarian, he narrated “Rasta came to me when I was at KNUST. There was this brother called Ras Sha-uu, he was the one who initiated me into the faith. I had listened to Ras Kimono’s music which inspired me so much (before I got to KNUST). In fact Ras Kimono was my main mentor, his Rasta vibes. So when I got in there, I realized he was a Rasta man who was popular. There were other Rastas but Sha-uu was the one I got close to. We used to read the Bible together whiles he was blazing his herbs”.
