Second Lady, Samira Bawumia has said she has not regretted describing former President John Dramani Mahama as incompetent.
According to her, the former president had failed to improve the lives of Ghanaians and bring the much needed development as was expected of him but rather worsened their living conditions. This, the wife of the vice president asserted, is a demonstration of sheer incompetence hence she and her party could not have described him in any better terms.
Recounting some of the failures of the erstwhile Mahama’s government, the Second Lady stated that the former president’s administration superintended over the mismanagement of the state which brought untold hardship on Ghanaians. She added that the mismanagement plunged the country into darkness as there were frequent outages resulting from insufficient funds to pay power producers.
The country, she said, had to seek financial support from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) with unfavorable conditions including a freeze on public sector employment as result of the mismanagement.
“No (I don’t regret). He was given a job to do and it resulted in a freeze in public sector employment. It resulted in Ghana going to the IMF. It resulted in an untold hardship. It resulted in dumsor. So what do you call that?” she squeezed.
Mrs. Samira Bawumia who was speaking on Accra based Asaase Radio rejected claims that her description of the former president as incompetent is insulting. She insisted that her description of the former president is as a result of his abysmal performance and does not constitute an insult to him stating that insulting is not one of her traits.
She said the performance of the Akufo-Addo’s administration justifies her description of the former president as incompetent.
“Especially now, (I don’t regret). Is that an insult? I didn’t mean it as an insult. It is not even in my nature to insult. All we were saying is he didn’t do his job as expected, “she said.
The Second Lady who was very instrumental in the 2016 campaign of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) described Mr. Mahama and his administration as incompetent and corrupt at a rally.
On March 9, 2020, Mrs. Bawumia in an interview on Asempa FM maintained that “John Dramani Mahama is most the same and the same incompetent person he was when he was Ghana’s president. It will be suicidal for Mahama and his NDC to come back to power since they ran down the economy for the eight years they were in power.”
