The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Bawku in the Upper East Region Hamza Amadu has stated that, he is determined to ensure lasting peace returns to the Municipality despite the several daily life-threatening messages.
Having dreamt of leading and serving the people even before his appointment and subsequent confirmation as MCE in October 2021, Mr Amadu said, he does not regret the position he occupies despite the pockets of violence under his administration in Bawku.
The re-emergence of violent conflict has left scores of people in the once economically vibrant town and agricultural hub dead while many have sustained varying degrees of injury.
Speaking on Breakfast Today’s Program on Dreamz FM, Mr Amadu said he is never perturbed by the threats on his life via text messages and social media, since he is determined to ensure the right things are done to bring peace to the area.
He said ”I have never regretted becoming MCE for Bawku. I’m happy that both factions [conflict parties] are those giving me tough time. Both factions will criticize you, and that tells you that you are doing the job.”
”The funny story in Bawku is that, when one of the factions is doing something and you think is bad and you go out and talk, they want to attack you, but I’m not going to have problems with that. People are meant for problems so you have to face them. You are the leader, if it is good it is you, If it is bad it is you. We will do the right things in Bawku.” – He added.
Mr Amadu said, several engagements are ongoing by key stakeholders to bring lasting peace to Bawku, and he is hopeful that interested factions in the conflict will eventually give peace a chance.
