President of the Millar Institute for Transdisciplinary and Cultural Studies, Prof. David Millar has taken on senior citizens of Ghana over what he believes is their insatiable thirst for wealth.
Prof. Millar cannot fathom, at their age, they would still be bent on amassing wealth at all cost to the detriment of the country and the young ones in particular.
At this point in their lives, Prof. Millar expects that they would be nationalistic and thus, focus on helping to turn things around for the better.
But this, in his assertion, is not the case as he said senior citizens are jostling for wealth and grabbing same through illegitimate means.
“The old ones sitting there who still are amassing wealth and I don’t know for what. I’m also an old man. I’m around 70. I’m asking, my agemate grabbing wealth to do what? Even to drive a V8, it’s not easy. If you drive an Uber, it’s easier for you at that age. Where do you go apart from church? Where do you go? The old ones I’m fed up with them. They are the problem,” he stated.
Prof. Millar is, therefore, charging the youth to rise up and protect the state coffers and their future against such malfeasance.
“My preoccupation is not to sensitize but make the youth angry enough to tell the rest of the country enough is enough” .
He said this in an interview on Breakfast Today on Dreamz FM while speaking on president Akufo-Addo’s recent defence of his government’s record in the fight against corruption.
At the commissioning of the Law House in Accra, Akufo-Addo contended that contrary to widely held public opinion, his government has demonstrated commitment towards combating the canker.
He mentioned the passage of laws and the adoption of administrative measures as an indication of his administration’s commitment to dealing with graft.
But Prof. Millar said the country’s leaders have been playing mind games with the fight against corruption.
