PAPAVI, LEADER OF HOMELAND STUDY GROUP FOUNDATION

Leader of the Homeland Study Group Foundation (HSGF), a secessionist group, has made unsubstantiated allegations against the state security apparatus.

In a video broadcast on social media, the HSGF leader, Charles Komi Kudzordzi alleged that about 1,000 heavily armed security personnel have been on a manhunt for him.

The self-acclaimed leader of the so-called Western Togoland claimed that he had gone into hiding to ensure his safety because the heavily armed security personnel who are on a manhunt for him have been reportedly tasked to track him down “ either dead or alive.”

“It has been brought to my attention that I am wanted here and there through the land. I was attending peaceful meetings here and there. At the end of one meeting, I was informed that several soldiers, heavily armed policemen were chasing after my name. Rumors even had it that I should be brought either alive or dead,” he said.

Mr. Kudzordzi who also claimed he had always availed himself to the security agencies whenever he was invited said he could not fathom why about 1,000 men will be searching for a fragile old man like him armed to the teeth.

“I have made myself available to the police on several occasions. Anytime they wanted me, I availed myself and we had discussions and I came home but this time I don’t know why young men holding guns, 1,000 of them looking for an 85 year old man. I don’t know what they have in mind about me and I have to hide my face. This is why you have not heard from me for a few days,” he added.

On the recent revolts by suspected members of the group, Mr. Kudzordzi rejected claims that the attacks on the police stations and the blockage of roads as well as the recent attacks on the State Transport Company were carried out by members of the secessionist group.

According to the 85 year old man, their demand for the creation of a new country out of Ghana is a peaceful advocacy which does not involve violence. He therefore urged the government to thoroughly investigate the incident so as to apprehend the persons responsible for the recent violent acts.

On Friday, September 25, suspected members of the Homeland Study Group Foundation attacked two police stations in the Volta Region . They overpowered the officers on duty breaking into the armouries and absconding with weapons belonging to the security agencies. They then proceeded to mount blockades on major entry and exit points of the region leaving passengers entering or traveling out of the region stranded.

The blockades were subsequently cleared as the security agencies brought the situation under control.  Some suspects were later arrested in connection with the disturbance and arraigned before court.

The latest attack by alleged members of the group was on Tuesday, September 29 when some four armed men invaded the Ho STC yard. They attacked the drivers who were spending the night and set two buses parked in the yard ablaze.
