The Member of Parliament-elect for the Bongo Constituency Charles Bawaduah has described his victory in Saturday’s elections as emphatic.
Bawaduah, who is a legal practitioner, polled 30,114 of the total votes cast as against his main and only contender Diana Aburiya, who secured 9,528 votes.
Speaking in an interview on State of Our Nation on Dreamz FM days after being declared winner of the parliamentary contest in the area, Charles Bawaduah said the outcome of the elections reflects the results from the various polling stations in the Bongo Constituency.
He said, of the more than 100 polling stations across the constituency, he swept all of them including the polling station at which the New Patriotic Party’s candidate Diana Aburiya voted.
“I won all the polling station including even the Special Voting. I think that is what makes it more significant than the magnitude of the gap. I beat Madam Aburiya at her own polling station,” he stated.
This, he said, makes his victory significant and raises expectations of his tenure high. He, nevertheless, indicated that he poised to deliver on his promises and not let the constituents down.
“What it means then is that a lot more is expected of you. When you win all polling stations, the expectations come from all the communities that have voted for you. So what it means is that one has to work harder to maintain that kind of popularity.”
